Honduras - notes from last night's meeting

You MUST get your deposit of $100 to Anita Pannell at FBC as soon as possible. We had a GREAT turnout last night and Dr. Lowe expects a waiting list this year. The deposit helps secure you a spot on the team. The cost for this year's trip is $1,700

Pam needs everybody's paperwork as soon as possible, this includes a photocopy of your passport. We had problems last year with incomplete and incorrect paperwork and the team was punished with $500 in penalties. We can't afford to let these fines happen this year, so your paperwork needs to be sent in now. Even if you don't have your passport yet, still get your paperwork in. Otherwise you might be responsible for paying your own fine for wrong or missing documents.

"fairly long drive" to this village
The town has a plaza (with a statue) and 2 Catholic Churches along with cobblestone streets. There are also power lines and poles with transformers, so hopefully we will have electricity for the entire week. :-)

Our flights are from New Orleans to Houston to San Pedro Sula to Tegucigalpa

There won't be a construction crew this year. It is cost-prohibitive to have a construction crew this year. Plus this village really doesn't have a construction need at this time.

Our shipping date is Friday April 17th.
If you are sending clothes to give away, each item needs to be
(1) new or gently used
(2) washed
(3) folded
(4) placed in a zip lock bag
(5) the size written on the zip lock bag
(6) placed in a box to be shipped out Friday April 17th

Clothes that don't meet this criteria will not be taken. We simply don't have the manpower and time to go through the clothing items once we arrive in Honduras. And we don't want to give away clothes that are obviously second hand. Let's be practical here.

We are also encouraging people to ship their belongings down ahead of time. You can ship your clothes, bedding, fans, etc in boxes ahead of time. But you are responsible for making your own list of what is in your box and keeping up with it. That way you know you have shipped down enough underwear.

Cloth diapers
Linda Lowe and her group are going to be putting together cloth diapers for this year's trip. If you want to contribute to that endeavor, contact her.

Our next meeting will probably be in about a month. And once the pills arrive, you will be invited to help with pill-packing parties.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Getting geared up,

Tammy

WELCOME

Welcome to the Terry Lowe / Pam Rouse Honduras Mission Team! It is a joy and a pleasure to have you join us on this year’s adventure to Honduras. If you are looking for an opportunity to share God’s love through your actions while sleeping on foam mattresses on a concrete floor next to your neighbor and showering in a dark, solitary shower stall with a water bag hanging over your head, then this is one major reality check for you. You’ll grow closer to God as well as your team members in this once in a lifetime opportunity to learn that God is truly infinite as well as international. Welcome aboard!

We are excited that you could join us this year. My name is Tammy Matlock. I am the PR person who distributes weekly e-mails to the team. This helps make sure that we are all on the same page and it frees up our team leaders to focus on more important things. Terry Lowe and Pam Rouse are the co-Captains of our team (our fearless leaders). Please add the following e-mail addresses to your contact list so you can receive updates from us.

Terry Lowe, Co-Captain terrylowe@megagate.com
Pam Rouse, Co-Captain prouse111@aol.com
Tammy Matlock, PR Person tmatlock@aultmantyner.com

The most important things for you to do immediately is fill out your paperwork and get it to Pam Rouse ASAP, and start the process on obtaining your passport. The passport can take 2-3 months to get back. So that needs to be started this week. You pick up a passport form at your nearest Post Office. Fill it out. I think you have to attach a certified copy of your birth certificate. You have to get a passport photo. These can be taken at The Post Office, Wal-Green’s or Kinko’s. Then take your completed passport form, your certified birth certificate, and your passport photos, and 2 checks to the Post Office to send off. Then two to three months later, you will have your passport. Once you receive it, you will have to photocopy it and get that copy to Pam Rouse.
